The Museo Chiossone boasts the largest collection of weapons and armor in Italy.

The museum’s director also emphasizes the need for lacquer art restoration.
The largest collection of Buddhist sculptures, weapons, and armor in Italy was collected by Edoardo Chiossone, an Italian printmaker and painter who came to Japan in the Meiji era and spent his life in Japan.

Kiyokawa visited the Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art and met with Director Aurora Canepari. The
director expressed her strong desire to learn about restoration techniques and knowledge to preserve the
collection, and to promote its restoration as soon as possible given the large number of exhibits the
museum hosts.
She has requested that Kiyokawa give a lecture jointly with several other museums in the future, as other
museums are facing the same problems with their Japanese collections, especially with the lacquer
artwork.
