A special course on lacquer restoration scheduled for September in Venice has been selected for funding by the Toshiba International Foundation.
The Toshiba International Foundation commented that it appreciated the fact that Japanese craftsmen and restorers have entered an era in which they no longer have to go abroad every single time, but rather have to train local personnel.
Currently, there are many Japanese lacquerware pieces lying overseas, most of which need to be preserved.
If left unattended, this outstanding Japanese art will be destroyed and lost in the not-too-distant future.
This project is a step toward preserving and restoring Japanese art abroad.

東芝国際交流財団様からは「日本の職人や修復家が、いちいち海外に出向くのではなく、現地で人材を育成する時代になったことを評価したい。」とコメントいただきました。
現在、海外には多くの日本の漆器が眠っており、そのほとんどが保存と修復を必要としています。
このまま放置すれば、この優れた日本美術は遠からず破壊され、失われてしまうでしょう。このプロジェクトは、海外における日本美術の保存・修復への一歩となります。
